OK, I’ve been about 98.9% faithful to this whole “Wordless Wednesday” format. A few times I think I’ve included captions, but for the most part I’ve posted little more than a title and a picture. Today’s offering is breaking with that for a very important reason, so I hope you’ll bear with me. If not, scroll down to the end for today’s wordless picture!
This time, a year ago, I went live with the first post on Smoredogs! I took the leap after getting very encouraging noises from a blogger friend and have continued to get encouraging noises from friends made since then.
On the whole it’s been a terrific experience. I’ve met and talked with more new people this last year than I had in many years prior and have had fun sharing my experiences with my dogs, cats, and the occasional guinea pigs. I’ve enjoyed sharing the few training tips I have, and participating in the welcoming world of pet blogging.
Marsha enjoying the various aspects of the 2016 Blog Paws conference!
Even the one huge unpositive thing, the untimely death of middle cat Flick (maybe especially that) has been processed and put into context by writing about it and putting it out there for the world to see.
So, what now? Well, it’s fairly obvious that the blog has mostly devolved into Wordless Wednesdays; a hazard for an introvert in my line of work is the capacity for non-work related decision making and creativity is curtailed sharply for much of the year. I would like to have enough ideas for one, original, written piece per week, and I do have some ideas I’ve been stringing along for a while, but time will tell if I have enough. I’m sure I’ve got enough in me for once a month, at least! Also, since it has been a year, and now have some things to refer back to and revisit, I’ll be doing some more “Throwback Thursdays” in 2017. In fact, you might want to check back tomorrow…
So from me, and my critters (if they had the abstract reasoning to comprehend the Internet, as well as the language skills to wish things upon the people using it) Happy 2017!
And now, as promised, today’s Wordless Wednesday!

First I’m really sorry to hear about Flick. I didn’t remember reading out that. And if you ever want to bounce around blog ideas just shoot me a note! I also think coming up with editorial calendar ideas is hard… happy new year!

Thanks Christy. He had a good little cat life, if too short. I keep forgetting that I don’t have to do this in a vacuum, so thanks for the offer; I might just take you up on it! Happy New Year to you too!

Congrats on one year of blogging. Sorry for the loss of your cat though. I lost a dog way too young (she was actually the reason I started blogging, lo’ these many years ago….) and I like to focus on the fact that she had a great quality of life, even if she got screwed on quantity. I’m sure it was the same for your Flick. (Also… I’m bad – i break the “wordless” thing all. the. time. It’s really hard for me to not be word – as this comment indicates.) 🙂

Yes, Flick had a good life, far better than the one he would have had scavenging from a dumpster like he was when he was found. Wordiness is fine, my written post tend to run 300-400 words, and I’m not down on anyone if they don’t stick to the WW ‘rules.’ We all run our own blogs our own way.

You gotta do you, Erik! 🙂 If a post a month feels doable, try that for a while. You can always adjust!
Congrats on the one year mark. That’s a major milestone, and I hope you’re as proud of you as I am!

Not sure about THAT! But at least it’s not a predator/prey relationship!

So sorry to hear about Flick. I think we started (officially 😉 )blogging at around the same time so congrats on the one year mark! Also, my #wordlesswednesday posts are always more like #fewerwordswednesdays so do what works for you!

Thanks S.D. Congratulations on your first year too! Flick dying so young was the height of personal suck in the suck of a year that was 2016. I keep hoping that every time I lose a pet that NEXT time I’ll know what to look for. Unfortunately, they keep dying of different things, so I’m back to square one each time. For me Wordless Wednesdays are usually wordless because I’ve only just remembered to get something on there before getting out the door to work!
